A Beginner’s Guide to Bifold Door Handles

bifold-door-lock

A bifold door is a permanent investment. Built to last.

At Bifold Shop, we therefore encourage our customers to consider every little detail to ensure they get it right from the start. One of the most important details is the choice of bifold door handles. We receive numerous enquiries about the options we have available, and so have compiled all the information into one digestible blog. Throughout, you’ll be guided through the various options to help you choose the perfect handles for bifold doors. We’ll explore types, materials, locking mechanisms, installation options and more.

Let’s get started.

What Types of Internal Bifold Door Handles Are There?

At Bifold Shop, we streamline the installation process for you, fitting your chosen handles along with your bifold door. This means we can quickly deliver your system and save you the hassle of organising it yourself.

Some of the most popular options we’ve fitted include:

Bifold Door D Handles

D handles are a sleek choice for internal bifold doors. Typically, we use aluminium to match the door frame, and they’re available in various finishes such as chrome or matte black. D handles also have an ergonomic design that makes them easy to grasp and operate.

Bifold Door Lever Handles

Lever handles are a classic option, suitable for both contemporary and traditional interior schemes. Again, we typically use aluminium handles in a variety of finishes for a long-lasting appearance. Lever handles also offer an ease of use that’s considered to be especially beneficial for households with elderly individuals, providing a comfortable grip and smooth operation.

What Bifold Door Handle is Best For Your Home?

Before you make the decision, there are several factors we recommend that you consider. This will influence your decision and narrow down your search for the perfect handle:

  • Frequency of Use – How often will your bifolding doors be used daily? Handles that are used frequently should be durable and ergonomic for ease of operation.
  • User Demographic – Who will be using the door? If your answer is children, for example, we recommend opting for handles that are safe and easy for little hands to grasp. Other features like finger-safe gaskets can also be installed to prevent accidents.
  • Environmental Factors – You may also need to take into account your surrounding environmental conditions. Handles made from aluminium, for example, are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use due to their durability and resistance to corrosion.
  • Budget Requirements – Of course, you’ll also need to set a budget for your handle selection. This will be included in your overall bifold door cost. Remember that higher quality materials may cost more upfront, but can offer better longevity.

What Type of Bifold Door Locking Mechanism Are There?

To accompany your bifold door handles, you’ll need a lock. These are especially important since these types of doors typically connect indoor and outdoor spaces. At Bifold Shop, all bifold doors we offer are multipoint lokcing, with a minimum of 5 locks, to meet your security needs:

  • Twinpoint Locks – Twinpoint locks feature locking points at two locations along your door frame. This provides security by distributing force evenly. It’s a locking mechanism that’s ideal for external bifold doors.
  • Shootbolt Locks – Shootbolt locks extend from the top and bottom of the door frame into corresponding slots, securing your door firmly in place. This mechanism adds an extra layer of security against forced entry and is recommended for both external and internal bifold doors.
  • Deadbolt Locks – Deadbolt locks offer solid, single-point locking by extending a bolt into a strike plate mounted on the door frame. This type of lock ensures a strong, secure closure and is also suitable for internal and external bifold patio doors.

Bifold Door Handle Customisations

Now the fun part. When choosing door handles for bifold doors, we offer plenty of customisable options to suit your home. For example, you may want to ensure that your handles complement the rest of your bifold door’s style. For modern doors, our D handles and lever handles are often a winner.

Bifold Door Handles: Professional Installation or DIY?

We highly recommend professional installation for your bifold door handles, simply to ensure a finish that will last for years without the need for replacements. Our professional team has the expertise to handle (if you pardon our pun) the intricacies of the project at hand. This will also save you considerable time and hassle as we coordinate it all – from the delivery of your chosen handle to completing the installation alongside your bifold door system.
